Salzburg's "Old Town" (Altstadt) has internationally renowned baroque architecture and one of the best-preserved city centres north of the Alps. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The city is noted for its Alpine setting.

Salzburg is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart so you can find links to his name on many places. The city of Salzburg is quite similar to Vienna - just a bit smaller.

In winter, you can go skiing in dozens of ski resorts within an hour of driving. In summer, you can do a hike, bike, climb etc. There are tons of possibilities, just buy a guidebook and take good clothes/equipment with you.
