Vienna ( /viːˈɛnə/; German: Wien [viːn];) is the capital of the Republic of Austria and one of the nine states of Austria. Vienna is Austria's primary city, with a population of about 1.7 million (2.4 million within the metropolitan area, more than 25% of Austria's population), and is by far the largest city in Austria, as well as its cultural, economic, and political centre. It is the 10th-largest city by population in the European Union.

Vienna also used to be the capital of Austro-Hungarian monarchy that dissolved at the end of World War I in 1918. Monarchy included current countries of Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and part of Italy and some other countries. So Vienna has a great significance and you can find bombastic baroque building, beautiful architecture but everyting plays well with modern rest of the city. Great example is the Hofburg - the last emperor's place of stay.

Vienna is also a Mecca for classical music. Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Schubert, Strauss, Brahms and Mahler spent important parts of their lives here.

Vienna has got a huge airport wich much more flights than Prague. So if you want to fly after visit of Český Krumlov, it is usually cheaper for you if you take a shuttle from Český Krumlov to Vienna than to Prague.
